A New Year’s Revolution

fireworks-1185478-640x480I have just finished my first book of 2016, the excellent, You are a Writer, (So Start Acting Like One) by Jeff Goins.

It wasn’t on my planned reading list, but as Jeff was offering it for 99p, a fact that appealed to the Northerner in me, I bought it. The book provided a welcome break from the pop psychology, around New Year’s resolutions, I’ve ploughed through over the past few days.

New Year’s resolutions are alien to me. I don’t make them. My brain doesn’t like the negativity connected to them.

“Stop this,” “lose that.”

My brain also works in the now. It doesn’t want to waste energy contemplating something that it might want to do in the future.

There were two statements in the book that my brain resonated with.

  1. You are a writer.
  2. Just write.

Those statements are in the now and connect with my passion and motivation.

“My name is Davy D and I am a writer.”

I’ve said it, and that is my focus for 2016.  As a reminder I’ve written it everywhere, my writing diary, my work diary, on my computer, and on my work planning board.

I’m starting to feel like a writer already.

Happy New Year.

Hear hear (from another Writer who thinks New Year – or indeed ANY – Resolutions are too stress-inducing to be of any worth 🙂 Happy 2016 Davy.
