It’s holiday time and me and Mrs D are off to the Baltic for some relaxation and recuperation.

Inside The Mind Of Davy D will be back on the 24th July 2018 and Poetic Beats will return on the 27th July 2018.

Enjoy the warm weather.

It is that time of year when Inside the Mind of Davy D is feeling a bit like sawdust and time to take a break and recharge the batteries. For the next three weeks I will be wandering around the Isle of Wight and the Lake District having a bit of rest, recuperation and a search for more poetry.

There will be no more posts until Monday the 23rd April 2018, but please do feel free to peruse the site. I will still be popping in on your blogs and reading all your excellent stuff (WiFi permitting) and leave these excellent words from Buddha to dwell on.

” Your work is to discover your world and then with all your heart give yourself to it.”

bty Monday writing at coffee shop

Sitting in a café reading and writing is one of my guilty pleasures. I don’t get a chance to do this often enough. Last Monday morning was the rare occasion I managed it and it was such a lovely time. I will make extra effort to do it again on a regular basis.

But I was alone in that café, and while the solitude made for good writing and reflection having a group of friends to share it with is equally fulfilling to a writer, poet or even just a book lover like me.

I am fortunate that I have another “Café” I can go to without planning to take time off work. It’s a very friendly place filled with warm, talented and inspiring people I am privileged to sit with and have a coffee and chat.

That Café is accessible to anyone who wants…

Christmas With the Walking Dead

The zombie genre fascinates me – Fear the Walking Dead, Z Nation, The Walking Dead -I can’t watch enough of it.

I’ve even completed a “How long would you survive in a Zombie apocalypse” quiz. Eighteen months was the outcome, enough time for me to write the Zombie Haiku Anthology.

It is also on my bucket list to appear as an extra in a zombie film, or episode, and earlier this week I fulfilled the wish.

I went Christmas shopping in Central London.

Hordes of zombified shoppers wandered aimless through shops and across roads and pavements. Adults shouted at dogs, dogs barked at children, and children howled at adults.

In one store, I witnessed two women screaming at a store assistant after being told that the toy “their children couldn’t possibly live without”, the Hatchimal, was out of stock and no further deliveries expected until the 27th of December.

As the two women stormed out of the shop, reflecting on their children’s ruined Christmas, the assistant turned to a colleague and said, “I think I’m turning into a Zombie.”

How did we get to this point in our evolution? Isn’t Christmas, and the festive season, supposed to be a time of enjoyment and sharing happiness with family and friends?

At least the experience gave me some thoughts and material for this senryu.

Zombie hordes descend.
In a manger, far away,
A saviour cries.

Has the Christmas zombie virus struck where you are?

Please let me know and I’ll inform the authorities.
