Welcome to this weeks Poetic Beats with Howard B and Davy D, recorded on the 24th of July 2017 on Red Kite Radio.
Continuing on this month’s theme of poetry and motion, I read the poem, On the 11.37 with Sylvia Plath. We look at poetry and trains and give an insight as to how Sylvia Plath’s poetry collection, Ariel, and the 21st Century scourge, mobile phones on trains, planted seeds for the poetry.

Enjoy the conversation and I look forward to hearing your thoughts.
As some of you will know I started with a poetry slot on my local radio station Red Kite Radio a few weeks ago. Each week I am a guest on the show of Howard Bond, a fellow Northerner and guru of music from the 1960’s. The good news is we have managed to work out how to record the show and put it in a file format that can be used on Inside the Mind of Davy.
We have named the slot Poetic Beats and it takes place each Monday between 15.15 and 15.30 BST. Where possible, I will post the recording of each Monday’s programme on the Friday of that week on Inside the Mind of Davy D.
In short, Poetic Beats is designed to get poetry out there and as well as reading some of my own work, I will be reading some of the more famous poems (copyright allowing). We are also trying to get other local poets involved.
Poetic Beats follows a simple format. Each month we have a theme and there is the reading of a poem, a musical break and then an explanation and discussion of the poetry.
During July, we are looking at the theme of motion in poetry and in this week’s recording we read and discussed the poem Velvet Shoes by Elinor Morton Wylie and highlighted the charity, Poems in the Waiting Room.
If any of you want to listen to Poetic Beats live then you can find Red Kite Radio on the internet using the Tune In App, or you can visit the Red Kite Facebookpage and press the Use App button at the top of the page.

This week has been a surreal week and I have been hanging out with Red Kites; not the feathered versions but the great team who have just launched our new local radio station, Red Kite Radio.
The radio station launched on Sunday the 18th of June 2017 and I was honoured to be the first ever guest on Red Kite Radio reading live my poem (pictured above), dedicated to the new station. Below is evidence of the big day (just in case the Poetry Police are monitoring) and for Mrs.D who says I have the perfect face for radio.
Davy D points poignantly at a wall.
Every Monday starting from July 3rd 2017 I will be on the Howard Bond show between 3.20pm and 3.30pm talking about poetry, reading some of my poetry and poetry written by local writers, as well as some of the more famous and well known poems.
This has kick started a project to include recordings of some of my longer poems and excerpts from the radio bits on the blog, which will also be starting on Inside the Mind of Davy D in July.
You can find Red Kite Radio locally in the UK on 107.2 FM and the station will be available on the internet soon.
In readiness for my first appearance I’m off to buy a Cravat and a Persian Cat.
